VRML (Virtual Reality Modeling Language)

by Ming Yang

VRML (Virtual Reality Modeling Language) is a developing standard for describing multi-participant interactive simulations -- virtual worlds networked via the global Internet and hyperlinked with the World Wide Web. The first version of VRML allows for the creation of virtual worlds with limited interactive behavior.

In this talk, I will discuss the context for VRML and how it could be used on the Web. Then I will introduce the language basics and features of VRML1.0. However, VRML1.0 does not specify how to describe animation and multiple participants' interaction in the same virtual world. These limits as well as the future for VRML will also be discussed.
